For all its plus points, London has lagged behind so many other cities for so long in its café culture – over-expensive espresso coffees with wispy foam or, worse, watery instant have been standard in many places for years. Happily, the situation is now beginning to change, with more and more independent cafes that appreciate the skills needed in selecting the right coffee beans, treating them carefully, extracting the perfect brew and then serving with well-textured milk and a dash of style. It is a fantastic change and means that Londoners can finally look beyond the bland and expensive chains and find great-tasting cups of coffee in interesting places all over the city.

 

At Coffee Lovers London we are determined to highlight the best of these independent cafes in your location. As well as a truly tasty espresso, latte or cappuccino, we also care about service, atmosphere and value for money – the kind of things that many of the chain coffee houses seem to have long-forgotten. We love cafes and their baristas to have a real personality, and many of the places we have listed are worth a visit for their dynamism as well as for the drinks they serve. We also value good, fresh food and appreciate cafes that try to consider the growers and the environment as they go.

 

Most important of all though, we want our coffee to be served with due care and attention; as well as helping to get you started in the morning, get you over an afternoon haze or be the perfect end to your meal, good coffee drunk in moderation can offer a range of amazing flavours and sensations to rival anything sent our from the kitchen or from behind the bar.

 

We think a perfect cup should have a definite character, strong without being bitter and with a touch of sweetness, nuttiness or aromatics; espressos should be short and with a rich crema, while milky drinks should be smooth and creamy and yet retain a distinct coffee taste.
