Health Perks of Coffee

On a far-too-often basis I seem to find articles relaying the faults of coffee. These include but are not limited to its connection to high cholestoral, heart disease, dependence; the list goes on. These are not the things I want to be reading about my favorite morning beverage. Which is why I get so excited when I come across articles like the two listed below. One comes to us from Huffintonpost and discusses a new study which shows a connection between women coffee drinkers and a lowered risk of depression. The other comes from NPR and caters more to the male population, showing a connection between male coffee drinkers and a lower risk of the deadliest form of prostate cancer. I'm always skeptical of such studies finding benefits to what was previously thought to be nothing but bad for people. After all, the cigarette industry funded numerous 'studies' in the 1930s and 1940s claiming smoking had numerous health benefits, that those anti-smoking people were just trying to ruin your day. Yet the best part of both of these entries is that the studies have been conducted by persons in no way connected to the coffee industry, so we can have faith in the validity of the results. Female and male coffee-drinkers alike can take joy in knowing that not only is their coffee getting them through the day, it is also leading to long-term health benefits for all.
